A swift and sensational dessert with a soft, airy exterior and a luscious molten center. This chocolate lava mug cake pairs simplicity with a touch of indulgence by using everyday ingredients and minimal preparation time. It cooks in the microwave, ensuring you enjoy a decadent treat with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale

    • 3 Tablespoons (40g) Melted Butter

    • 3 Tablespoons Sugar

    • 4 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour

    • 2 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa

    • Pinch of Salt

    • 3 Tablespoons Milk

    • 1 Egg

    • 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder

    • About 1oz (28g) Chocolate, your favorite

    • A Small Splash of Water (optional)

Instructions

    1. Melt the Butter: Place the butter in a large, microwave-safe mug and heat for about 20 seconds.
    2. Combine Dry Ingredients: Stir in the sugar, flour, cocoa, and pinch of salt until partially mixed.
    3. Add Liquid Components: Pour in the milk, crack in the egg, and sprinkle in the baking powder. Stir until the batter is smooth.
    4. Insert Chocolate Center: Drop the chocolate piece into the center of the batter. Add a small splash of water over the chocolate if desired.
    5. Microwave: Cook on high for around 1 minute 20 seconds (using a 1000W microwave). Stop once the top looks slightly moist.
    6. Serve Warm: Allow it to cool briefly before digging into the molten center.

Notes

    • Check Microwave Strength: If your microwave runs hot, reduce the time slightly to avoid drying out the center.

    • Don’t Overmix: Stir just enough to incorporate the ingredients. Overmixing can toughen the cake.

    • High-Quality Chocolate: Opt for good chocolate to achieve the richest, creamiest lava core.
